With less than 50 rooms split across three low-set buildings, the Magic Tulip Hotel has an intimate, low-key vibe. It’s set in a quiet spot with a mountain backdrop, just a five-minute walk from the beach. The shops, bars and restaurants of Olu Deniz are about the same distance away, too.

The hotel itself is a colourful place with a striking orange and yellow colour scheme. Bright-pink bougainvillea, and trees that cling to walls add further interest, but it’s the pool that attracts the most attention. It’s a good-size oblong affair set in a terrace with sun beds and parasols.

Another nice outdoor spot is the bar. It’s in a shady corner of the terrace under a vine-covered pergola with wicker-work chairs and tables. Food-wise, this place serves up breakfast out on a terrace overlooking the pool. Expect a typically Turkish offering of eggs, cheese and tomatoes.

Inside, the bedrooms are comfy bases which mainly sleep two. Looks-wise, while they might not be cutting-edge in design, they’re certainly nice and bright. A TV, hairdryer and a small balcony or terrace are all part of the deal, too.
