Sitting in a spot called ‘Europe’s Balcony’ by a former King of Spain, Hotel Balcon de Europe certainly deserves its name. It’s carved into the rock of the little rocky promontory that gave the King an eyeful of this beautiful coastline. And the view’s barely changed over the years – it’s glittering ocean as far as the eye can see.

But that’s just part of the story. At the hotel itself, it’s the sun terrace that steals the limelight. Halfway down the back of the hotel, it’s actually a split-level rooftop terrace. The top half is home to a small rectangular pool, the bottom is dressed with sunloungers, and below them both you’ll find the rest of the hotel and the beach.

Room-wise, they’ve kept things simple with tiled floors and air-conditioning working together to keep things cool. And they’ve used the same fuss-free approach in the Don Enrique restaurant, too. Cue lots of white-washing, windows and low-key lighting.

You’ll find the other restaurant down on the beach, where seafood is served with a side order of sea views. It’s not the food, the rooms or even the setting that keeps loyal customers coming back year after year though, it’s the staff. Warm, welcoming and attentive, the service here is hard to beat.
