Designed like a whitewashed Mediterranean village, the Talayot is one of Menorca’s little gems. As well as its good looks, it’s got big appeal for families, particularly those with younger kids. There's a Thomson Kids' Club, a playground and even video games.

When it comes to location, the apartments are on a tree-lined road between Cala’n Forcat and Cala’n Blanes, a little away from both resort centres. It’s a 10-to-15 minute walk to the beach at Cala’n Blanes, as well as to the sands at Cala’n Forcat, where you’ll find a small cove. You’ve also got plenty of restaurants, bars and shops including a supermarket, right on your doorstep.

Life at the apartments revolves around the swimming pools. There are five spread around the gardens, and they run the full spectrum between playful and peaceful. Among them is a lively river-like pool, a splash pool and a bigger, quieter affair with terraces framed by hedges. Finishing the line-up is a dinky children’s number with a fountain perched alongside the pool bar, so you can relax over drinks while watching the kids splash around.

On the subject of food and drink, the restaurant serves up traditional Spanish and international dishes, including pizzas. Plus there’s a lounge bar where evening shows are held, and a games room with a pool table.

In terms of the accommodation, the whitewashed apartments are housed in cute, terracotta-topped two-storey blocks scattered around the gardens, which are planted with palms and flowerbeds. Each one is functional and comfortable, with satellite TVs, open-plan kitchenettes. Balconies and terraces looking out over the lawns add a final nice touch.
