Set slap, bang in the middle of rolling fields and thick forest, the Maria Studios are in a peaceful spot. And the views are picture-postcard perfect. But being in the thick of nature doesn’t mean you’re out on a limb. A 10-minute walk takes you to the heart of Alikes, or you can be on the beach in 15.

In terms of the hotel itself, it’s a laid-back, family-run place. Outside, you’ll find a good-sized swimming pool bordered by a sun terrace, with the studios clustered around it in a horseshoe shape.

Talking of the studios, they’re simply dressed and homely – the emphasis being on comfort rather than style. Tiled floors and neutral colour schemes are the mainstay, with coloured soft furnishings brightening things up. Each one comes with a balcony and a little kitchenette, too.

If you don’t fancy cooking yourself, the hotel’s snack bar offers up a selection of drinks and light meals throughout the day. It’s quite a lively spot in the evening, too, with karaoke, barbecues and quiz nights regularly on the menu.
